An independent Africa-Europe platform
Raisonnances Humanistes works on one question: who decides what health research is done and for whom.

Better decisions need more than one kind of knowledge
Public decisions built on a single type of expertise are poorer for it. We bring research institutions, policy actors and field practitioners into the same process.
We look at procedures more than declarations: who sits on which body, who writes which text, at what moment. That is where priorities are set.
African institutions define the priorities. We build the channel.
What we do, and what we leave to others
We do
Convene, translate, co-carry proposals, advocate with the African Union and the European Union, follow through.
We do not
Fund research, conduct research or run capacity-building programmes. Others do this well.
Why light matters
A small, independent structure can stay neutral, move fast and work at a level of detail large institutions cannot.

Amal Derqaoui
President and Founder, Raisonnances Humanistes
Amal Derqaoui started from a simple question: who decides what health research on Africa studies next?
In 2025 the financing and governance of global health were reshaped almost overnight. The question of who sets research priorities and where became pressing. She turned Raisonnances Humanistes towards it.
French and Moroccan by heritage, she is indebted to an Africa-Europe relationship built over decades by those who came before her.
She holds a Master in Public Policy and Public Administration from the Department of Government at the London School of Economics and a Master in Contemporary Philosophy from the Sorbonne.

A standing place where African and European institutions shape research priorities together, cycle after cycle.
An annual index
Measuring how far institutions from high-burden settings take part in setting global health research priorities.
A multi-stakeholder network
Research institutions, global health organisations, civil society and development finance, working as one network.
